FROM HOUSTON: Take IH-10 East toward Beaumont, about a 90 minute drive. Continue
through Beaumont staying on IH-10 and exit at Orange on SH-87. Take a left on 87
(North) and travel approximately 60 miles to Newton. The first major intersection in
Newton will be Highway 190. Take a right on 190 (East) and you will arrive at our
historic Newton County Courthouse Square. A 4-way stop sign at the Square will
indicate Highway 190 East will turn right. Follow 190 East for approximately 2.5 miles
and you will see
Whispering Creek
on the left.
FROM THE NORTH: Several routes from the north will bring you to Newton, Texas.
Highway 87 travels parallel to the Sabine River. It is a very scenic route going south,
however, you will encounter hills and curves during your travel. Highway 96 is another
good choice. Follow Highway 59 South from Texarkana to Tenaha, which is a few miles
south of Carthage. Take Highway 96 at Tenaha and go south for about 75 miles at
which point you will intersect Highway 190 in Jasper. Take a left (East) and travel for
approximately 15 miles to our historic Newton County Courthouse Square. Follow 190
East from the Square for approximately 3 miles and you will arrive at Whispering Creek.
FROM LOUISIANA: Follow IH-10 West to SH-87 at Orange, Texas and follow the
directions above. Another scenic route, as well as missing some of the construction on
IH-10 is to travel US190 from Baton Rouge west to near Ragley. Go north on 171/190
to DeRidder, Louisiana and follow 190. When you cross the Sabine River, you will travel
only another 15 minutes into Texas and our Park will be on the right side of Highway
190. From Northwest Louisiana follow 171 South to DeRidder and turn on 190 toward
Texas. |
