The Bald Eagle winters in the Toledo Bend
Reservoir area in such numbers that a
special Eagle Survey is conducted by Texas Parks & Wildlife each
January.
Eagles can often be seen from the
Lookout Tower on the Texas side of
Toledo Bend Dam through March.
Other interesting birds that may be viewed
from the Tower are Ospreys in the winter,
as well as Loons and Gulls.

The Wood Duck, one of
our most beautiful birds, has come back from the brink of extinction
with the help of man.
It is now one of the most common ducks
and can been seen along our creeks and
river-bottom lakes. |

The Swallowtail Kite
nests along the Sabine River and can be viewed from late April
through July.
One of the sites with easy access is at Bon Wier, a short distance
from WHISPERING CREEK.
This area can also be a superior migration birding site for smaller
birds. As many as 42 species have been sighted here during a
two hour period in April. |

Bad hair day or all
dressed up with no place to go? Even though this Cattle Egret is one
of our more common birds, in his breeding plumage, he presents
himself in a
startling contrast to his usual look. |

A truly majestic sight
in a peaceful setting, the Great Egret helps us relax and forget our
everyday cares. Have your camera ready!
